Wow! We definitely love dancing in class RV! This morning we had Lucy a dance teacher from ‘Flex Dance’ come in a teach us a dance routine. She was very impressed with our listening skills and we managed to follow her instructions to complete a routine. We then performed the routine in groups to each other and discussed how an audience should react after the performance.
Miss Vickerstaffe and Mrs Thompson were also impressed by our independence skills when getting dressed and undressed into our PE kits. If your child has not brought a PE kit into school, please can they do so by the end of the week.
This week in class RV we have been reading the story ‘Farmer Duck’. The children have watched some interesting videos on farming and we have discussed what produce can come from the crops and animals on a farm. Here is a link to one of the video’s that we watched.
We have discussed that non fiction books and computers can help us find out more information about farms. We will be using the children’s search engine ‘Kiddle’ to type in questions for find out further information.
Next week we are talking about journey’s and discussing journeys that the children might have been on. If your child would like to bring an object or photograph of a journey that they have been on, please do so.
This week we have been looking at the book ‘Stick Man’. The children went on a stick hunt earlier in the week in our Forest School outdoor area. The children used their imagination to think of what their stick could be. We also had some wonderful pieces of writing, the children are really starting to apply their phonetic skills.
“I’m not a stick I am a pencil”
“I’m not a stick I am a crocodile”
“I’m not a stick I am a fairy wand”
We have also started to learn our Nativity songs, which I’m sure the children will come home and sing to you!
On Friday we had a very busy day. We had our first EYFS assembly and 2 children were awarded ‘Learners of the Week’. Afterwards, our parents came into class to join in with the ‘Kitchen Disco’ Café. It was lovely to see all the parents joining in with activities with their children and other children in Reception. The children enjoyed tasting a wide range of fruit, explored musical instruments, and completed some observational drawings of the fruit from the story. I would like to say a BIG thank you to all the parents that came to the café and we look forward to inviting you all again next term.
Don’t forget the EYFS assemblies are every Friday from 9:00am-9:30am and parents can visit the school café between 8:40am-9:00am.
Another first time was our trip to the school fire pit in the afternoon. We have been learning about how to keep safe around fire, in particular at Bonfire night. Fireman Sam taught us some rules of how to behave around fire and what to do in the event of an emergency. Here are some photographs of our class listening to a story around the fire. Next time we will bring some marshmallows and hot chocolate! Yum!
This week we have been learning about how the police help us. Gareth the police officer came to visit us to tell us about his job and show us his uniform. We also looked at his police van and had a turn at sitting in the cell at the back of the van. Here are some of the questions that we asked him;
Scarlett – “do you wear a hat?”
Mohammed – “do you have a police boat?”
Alex – “how do you arrest people?”
Some members of the class have enjoyed dressing up in role as police officers and making junk model police cars.
This week has been a very busy week in class RV. The children have been learning about people who help us at home, in school and in the community. Next week we will be having a visit from a Police Officer to learn more about how the emergency services can help us.
We have also had lots of wonderful creations using various construction materials. One group of children building a tower that touched the classroom ceiling!
We visited Miss Whitely in the school library who helped us to select our first library book. We will visit the library every Wednesday afternoon to select a new book and have a class story session. Please remember to return your book every Wednesday so you can exchange it for a new book.
